Hate crime: don't tolerate it
As part of our Crime Reduction and Safety work we would like to inform you how to identify and report hate crime, and the support on offer.

A hate crime is any crime that is targeted at a person because of their race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. This can include abuse, name calling, assault, blackmail, harassment, intimidation, bullying or exploitation.
仇恨犯罪是指因某人的种族族裔、宗教信仰、性取向、性别认同或残疾而针对他的任何犯罪。这可能包括虐待、骂人、攻击、敲诈、骚扰、恐吓、欺凌或剥削。
We have a zero tolerance policy towards hate crime and ask that all forms of this crime be reported. By reporting incidents, you can help us provide support to those who need it, and to understand where we need to focus our efforts when it comes to prevention.

How do I report a hate crime on campus?

If you have been a victim of a hate crime or have witnessed a hate crime take place it is important to let us know.
In the first instance we recommend reporting to Security Services. Call us on: 0114 222 4085.

If you do not feel able to report an incident of hate crime yourself, you can ask one of our support services to do it on your behalf:

All reports received are dealt with sensitively through a victim first approach.
The Security team is trained to the highest standards in responding to hate crime incidents. The diversity of the Security Services team reflects, as far as practicably possible, the University community. They are further trained in equality, diversity and unconscious bias.
The Student Advice Centre is an official 3rd party reporting centre. You can report a crime in person by visiting them on Level 3 of the Students' Union, or calling them: 0114 222 8660.
